As part of ILO development and infrastructure projects’ outreach to companies and organizations in Lapland, Timo Laakkonen and Maxim Narbrough visited Inari.

The first part of the trip was a visit to the renowned Siida – The Sámi Museum and Northern Lapland Nature Centre , in collaboration with the Muittut, muitalusat project. Various aspects of the adoption and implementation of VR and AR technologies were discussed with project manager Eeva-Kristiina Nylander. She shared useful insights about what they have tested and are considering to adapt to their exhibitions.

The second meeting was with Kevin Francett, CEO, producer and cinematographer of Kajastus Creative. Kevin provided us with a valuable overview of the film and TV business in the Inari area. He highlighted both the opportunities and challenges of working in the relatively remote area of Northern Lapland. Based on his observations, we discussed the idea of holding a workshop with local film and TV practitioners from Inari and Rovaniemi, and the possibility of involving experts from further afield.

The final visit was to meet Erkki Feodoroff, media lecturer at the Sámi Education Institute (SAKK), located at the Sámi Cultural Centre (Sajos). The center is also home to the Sámi parliament, with whom the media students and lecturers work closely on various live broadcasts and events. The rich variety of events staged by the cultural center provides an excellent way to work and learn in a real production and broadcast environment.

We look forward to further collaborating with the inspiring people we had the pleasure of meeting on our short visit.
