The PAJAPÄIVÄ event was held on the the 23rd of November 2022. Organizers included, LES (Lapland Entrepreneurial society), ARCTA (Arctic Art & Design Labs), LUC (Lapland University Consortium) startup services, ILO project, ASFT project and Active Arctic project.

The day consisted of a series of tours to show visitors around several of the University of Lapland’s Art and Design department’s workshops and studios. The program also included presentations of projects from REDU and the ILO development projects, a mascot contest and a chance to network at the afterparty.

The day was opened by ILO project’s principal investigator and professor of industrial design, Jonna Häkkilä. Her opening speech was provided an introduction to the art and design department, as well as the ILO development and infrastructure projects. The projects were also elaborated on by ILO infrastructure project manager Timo Luukkonen, and ILO development project designer, Maxim Narbrough.

Tarmo Aittaniemi, project manager from REDU (Rovaniemi Municipal Federation of Education), gave an introduction to their Engineering Workshops project, as part of which they are acquiring a state-of-the-art 3D-printing and CNC-routing robot system.
In connection with collaboration through ILO, the new resources will also be accessible by staff and students at the University of Lapland’s design department.

Tours included the faculty’s XR Lab, Fab Lab, SINCO service Design Lab, Photography Lab, ARCTA entrepreneur spaces, Video studios, Proto Lab, CAD Studio and the Lapland Entrepreneurial Society offices. Each studio and lab was presented by a teacher or staff members familiar with the spaces. Many visitors were curious to know about what possibilities offered by the renewed facilities.

The afternoon’s highlight was a lively and illuminating discussion with entrepreneurs, and representatitives of several organizations. The discussion was moderated by the very capable and well-informed Julius Oförsagd, CEO of Arctic Factory. Speakers included Miikka Niemi (CEO of Flatlight Creative House), Tuomas Toivainen (Tarinapaja Ltd)
